So what's went down last week?
The going ons, happenings & shenanigans you might have missed ↓
In response to Gal Shir's viral post (7M+ views) about "I'm quitting design", Dylan Field, Figma's CEO decided to respond.
He realises AI keeps triggering waves of panic and existential angst, but designers usually adapt once they understand the tools. He argues that designers’ insecurity existed long before AI and comes from our field’s history and culture.
His main point is that design matters more than ever because attention is scarce and strong design helps companies stand out through brand, product, marketing, and customer experience.
Designers now have more influence in business than ever before.
The takeaway: don’t quit design out of fear of AI; be more confident, more creative, and more willing to take risks.
If you find yourself being more anxious and uncertain about your role as a designer, read Dylan's full response → (obviously he's bias)
xAI just announced Grok Bot (in early beta).
Think about it like autonomous AI agent similar to OpenClaw or Hermes Agent.
A bunch of bots, in a chat app, using your tools, replicating your workflows, and making you a lazy piece of shit (yes please!).
Unlike Claude Cowork or Perplexity Computer, it's not a general AI assistant. It's AI teammates you can (allegedly) give real work to.
It doesn't come cheap. It's $200 per month. Free if you're already on Cursor Ultra.
xAI hasn't officially acquired Cursor's parent company Anysphere (for $60B) but it's a clear sign that both companies are working closer together and the deal is about to close soon. Time to get in on SpaceX's stock?
I haven't tried Grok Bot yet. And I haven't got around to turning my old 2019 MacBook pro into dedicated machine for OpenClaw.
BUT reading this list of 100+ use cases is pretty compelling. 200 smackers a month though... it better pull it's weight.
Ever wondered why sometimes you feel like you're stuck at the same level for years? Hoping your work speaks for itself? Or underpaid and too nervous to ask for a raise?
I'm chatting to Steven Steiner about the 3-steps to help designers to actually go and get what you want.
Steven’s an award-winning designer, manager, and educator that coaches designers at Apple, Google, and Notion.
